Police yesterday rushed to Roden Nurseries in Telford to find a silver Toyota Prius had smashed into a conservatory.

The 83-year-old motorist had mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake when the crash happened at around 1pm.

The vehicle ploughed into the left hand side of the conservatory, smashing the glass panels, knocking down brick work and an advertising sign.

Police said the showroom and office were leased out by Roden Nurseries to a private company — and the owners were "very understanding".

No one was injured.

Sergeant Darren Heyes, of West Mercia Police, was called to the scene.

He said: "The driver was pulling out of the car park at Roden Nurseries and instead of hitting the brake he hit the accelerator and ended up crashing into the showroom conservatory.

"The showroom and office is rented out by Roden nurseries and the people there were fine. They gave the 83-year-old man and his passenger a nice cup of tea while he recovered. He was quite shocked afterwards.

"Luckily no one was injured and that's the most important thing."

No one at Roden Nurseries, the largest glasshouse nurseries in the West Midlands, was available for comment.
