The blaze broke out at about 3.10pm yesterday in Pentre, near Nesscliffe. It is believed a couple were inside the car when smoke started to appear, but soon after they got out it burst into flames.

Police and firefighters rushed to the scene, where the car had caught alight at a junction close to an electricity pole and nearby houses.

But before they arrived, 46-year-old Robert Evans captured the scene.

He said: "I think there was a couple in the car and it started smoking – the next minute it was on fire. They managed to get out OK but the car is a write-off.

"The fire service looked worried because fuel was floating down the road so they had to make sure that didn't set fire too. It was also near a pole which was starting to catch fire."

Two fire crews from Baschurch and Shrewsbury attended along with Shropshire Council staff and police officers.

The blaze was out shortly after 4pm, and police confirmed no-one was injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but police said there were no suspicious circumstances and it looked as if it might have involved the air conditioning unit.
