The 17-year-old appeared before magistrates at Shrewsbury this morning.

He spoke only to confirm his name and address before was remanded in custody.

The case has now been sent to Shrewsbury Crown Court next Monday.

The woman was attacked on July 18 at around 3.30am in Wrockwardine Wood Way, under the bridge between Wombridge Road and New Road, after a night out with friends in Oakengates.

She had been out with friends at the Industry nightclub in the town but left at about 2.40am and headed in the direction of the town's bus station.

The road was then shut for 36 hours while police carried out an investigation, which resulted in a huge manhunt leading to the teenager's arrest.
