The town's medieval fair will feature live music, children's entertainment and fancy dress.

There will also be a slaying of a dragon, storytelling and a pirate parade.

Shepleys Butchers, on Shrewsbury Road, is marking the occasion by creating medieval recipes. Owner Scott Shepley is planning wild ox, red wine and cranberry sausages in honour of the event on September 5.

He said: "We make different sausages for all kind of events. I know they liked wine in those days and ate a lot of wild ox so I wanted to combine the two.

"There is a local farmer who we source the meat from and we have already tried the recipe out. Everyone really liked it. They were a big success. On the day of the fair we will have a stall on the indoor market and also be selling the sausages in our shop on Shrewsbury Road.

"We are also buying mutton chops and shoulder and ox tail for people to try. We are all really looking forward to it. It is a great event for the town. It is a shame we do not have more as they are great to get people in the area together."

Organisers of the annual Market Drayton's medieval fair announced in May that they would have to pull the plug on this year's event after being unable to find financial help.

But the event looks set to return after a new committee of volunteers have since pulled together to make sure it goes ahead. It will be held along Cheshire Street and the road will be closed from 6am to 6pm.
