Technology Supplies Ltd, based on the Battlefield Business Park, has already started construction on an extension that will more than double the size of its existing site, and expects to pick up the keys before the end of the year.

The move will see the company extend its 32,000 sq ft warehouse with a further 45,000 sq ft, giving it one of the biggest warehouses of any business in the town.

The move will also see the company bring in 20 new staff, adding to the 78 staff already employed by the company in Shrewsbury.

It will allow the company to bring together the warehousing operations of its three UK-based sister companies on the single site, which will be known as the European Distribution Centre, although those businesses will retain their current office bases in Crewe, Walsall and Hoddesdon near London.

Technology Supplies, which provides equipment for design and technology curricula in countries around the world, is part of the Wall Group, which is based in Madison, Wisconsin, and has a 200 million US dollar turnover.

The company moved to its present site in Shrewsbury in 2012, having previously been based in Market Drayton. It was launched in 1988.

Ian Vaughan, director of operations for the EDC, has been with the company for 23 years.

He said: "There has been investment here over a long period of time, and that has given us a real advantage in the market with better logistics and warehousing operations and processes.

"We are going to another scale now, looking at further enhancements through warehouse management, bringing in automation, and really focusing on giving our customers the best possible service.

"We have been really quite proud of what we have done over the last three-and-a-half years at this facility. This takes us to another level."

The frame of the building has already appeared on the entrance to the expanding business park.
