Man suffers burns in Shropshire car gas explosion

A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with burns after a gas cannister exploded in a car in Shropshire today.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to Tyrley, near Market Drayton, shortly after 6.30am after the explosion involving a calor gas cylinder.

John Hawker, a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.30am to a bridge at Tyrley Wharf.

"One ambulance attended and one man believed to be in his 50s was treated for minor burns and transferred to to the Princess Royal Hospital."

Firefighters made the vehicle safe and were off the scene by 7am.
