Matthew John Shaw, 33, was seen by eyewitnesses to hit a kerb, which buckled the wheel of his car, before veering to the other side of the road and hitting a wall and other roadside furniture, a court heard.

The hearing was told that police were called to Walker Crescent in St Georges, Telford, at about 11pm on August 18.

Shaw's car, a Vauxhall Astra, was severely damaged by his driving.

He was found to have 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Shaw, of Blakemore, Brookside, Telford, was jailed for three months at Telford Magistrates Court.

The court was told how Shaw had started drinking earlier that day as he helped with a house move.

Shaw pleaded guilty at the hearing to one count of driving a motor vehicle while his alcohol level was above the legal limit.
