Oswestry tourist info centre faces closure

A tourist information centre on a main route through Shropshire could close next year.

Mile End TIC, off the A5 in Oswestry, has seen visitor numbers plummet, Shropshire Council said.

The authority is now holding a public consultation into whether the centre should close.

If the preferred option, which is to close the facility at Mile End Services and transfer responsibility for enquiries to Oswestry Borderland Tourism in the town's Heritage Centre, goes ahead the four part-time staff will either be transferred to other posts within the department or be offered redundancy.

Public consultation started this week and will run until December 29.

The council also wants to see the British Ironwork Centre on the A5 become an official tourist information point.
