Marysville Medical Practice in Shrewsbury provides effective, caring and responsive services to older people, families and those suffering from long-term conditions, according to Care Quality Commission inspectors.

The surgery, which is based in Brook Street in Belle Vue and caters for more than 5,000 patients, has come up with initiatives such as easy-to-read leaflets for patients with learning difficulties.

It also developed and led a Care Homes Advanced Scheme which aimed to increase clinical input into care homes.

The practice was judged to be outstanding in a report that has just been published following an inspection in June.

Professor Steve Field, chief inspector of general practice, said staff understood their responsibilities and that information about safety was recorded, monitored, appropriately reviewed and addressed.

In his report, Professor Field said: "Patients' needs were assessed and care was planned and delivered following best practice guidance. Staff received training appropriate to their roles and the practice were actively involved in the training and education of GPs, students nurses and counsellors."
