The Chester FC fans were heading to Wellington train station following AFC Telford's FA Trophy clash on Saturday.

The first incident occurred between 5pm and 5.30pm in King Street, Wellington.

The fans were assaulted by a group of five to six 15 to 18-year-old males.

The second, possibly linked, occurred between 5pm and 5.20pm in Regent Street by the entrance to New College car park, when a group of 12 to 15 men assaulted them.

All offenders were described as aged between 15-18 years old and of Asian appearance, one wearing an Arsenal football top, one a jacket with a fur rim around the hood of the coat, another with a dark coloured "puffa" jacket and one possibly with a ripped coat.

Police Constable Steve Butler said: "I do not believe at this stage that they are football related incidents but respectfully request information. Luckily the injuries sustained were not as bad as they could have been.

"As the Safer Neighbourhood Officer for the College & Arleston Area it's an incident that does not reflect our area, but one that does not reflect well on it, so I'm keen for the offenders to be identified, but I do really need your help."

Anyone with information should contact PC 3572 Steve Butler at Wellington Police Station quoting reference number: 0544S 121215. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org
