Telford MP Lucy Allan now faces grilling over video

Telford MP Lucy Allan has again come under fire after deleting a video statement on "Rustygate" less than 24 hours after putting it on her Facebook page.

Town resident Neil Phillips hit out after claiming he was blocked by Ms Allan when he posted underneath the video calling for the MP to resign.

In the video, which got more than 30,000 views and attracted hundreds of comments, she admitted she should not have engaged with opponents online and described the "weirdest week" of her political career.

But the video has now been removed from her page, along with the comments.

It came just days after Ms Allan announced she was stepping away from social media because it was proving a distraction.

The MP became the centre of a national storm – which has seen local protests and calls for her to be sacked or resign – after it was claimed she added the words "unless you die" to a message she said she had received and published on Facebook.

Critics accused her of embellishing the story, but the Telford MP said she had drawn upon two separate messages and has apologised for creating a "misleading impression".

Last week it emerged that West Mercia Police were investigating after Ms Allan said a caller had left a telephone message claiming someone was going to kill her.

Ms Allan said the message concluded with the man saying "hope you die".

The Metropolitan Police are also investigating after the MP made a complaint about a cyber harassment campaign, which she said had made it "difficult for my office staff and me to carry out our roles and duties in Parliament and in Telford".

But Mr Phillips said: "I am Telford born and bred and I have voted Conservative all my life and so I have no political axe to grind.

"Her latest video received thousands of views and there were hundreds of comments about her conduct.

"She has now deleted those comments and has now blocked many of her constituents, including myself, from expressing their views.

"She has been challenged many times to publish the email in which those infamous words 'Unless you die' appear and yet she refuses to comment on this."

But Chantelle de Villiers, spokeswoman for Ms Allan, said the MP had "no requirement" to respond to, or comment on, every posting on social media.

She said: "Lucy responds to all her constituents using the usual channels in five to 10 working days.

"Lucy's office responded to Mr Phillips' email within 48 hours of its receipt.

"There is no requirement for any MP to explain or provide running commentary on every Facebook posting. To do so would be a full time endeavour which would prevent MPs from doing the work for which they are elected."
