That was in 1999, and 16 years on, the United Arab Emirates is very much their home.

Steve, whose parents Phil and Sue still live in Windsor Drive, Market Drayton, say there is no problem enjoying a traditional British Christmas in their adopted home town of Dubai.

"We will be celebrating at home with the usual turkey and trimmings," he says. "There is very little that we cannot buy in Dubai anymore. We even have Shropshire Spice Co stuffing for the meal."

Steve, 45, and Rebecca, 42, originally went to live in Ras al Khaimah in the north of the country.

The couple will be celebrating Christmas with their sons Andrew, 10, and Matthew, 6.
