Shrewsbury teenager arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill in sports ground row

A teenager has been arrested in Shrewsbury on suspicion of making threats to kill following an alleged stand-off at a recreation centre in which a man sufferred facial injuries.

The 17-year-old boy from Shrewsbury was arrested by officers following the altercation at Monkmoor Recreation Centre in Racecourse Crescent.

A 19-year-old man from Shrewsbury was also arrested on suspicion of affray.

A 44-year-old man from Shrewsbury received facial injuries in the incident, which happened at about 6.45pm yesterday.

Police say four males are reported to have walked across the astroturf football pitches at the centre, disrupting two games of football, before the altercation took place.

There were a number of young footballers and their parents on the pitches at the time who are believed to have witnessed the incident, and police are keen to speak to all these people.
