The teenager, from Trench, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Mr Harpreet Sandhu, prosecuting, said the teenager met the 18-year-old woman in the centre of Telford in the early hours of July 18 last year before taking her phone.

He initially denied the offence but pleaded guilty to theft on the second day of his trial.

Handing him the referral order, Judge Peter Barrie said it had been very distressing for the victim as she had personal material on the phone which was lost. He added: "The impact goes beyond the mere value of the phone."
