Cheerleader Olivia Philips and Luke Richardson, who is an expert in Taekwondo, have both been chosen to represent their sports nationally in the coming months.

Olivia, 12 is set to head to Vienna later this month for the European Championships after being selected for the England pom dance team, and in 2017 she will be heading to Florida for the World Championships.

Luke, 14, who has been practicing Takewondo since he was five, is now part of the British GTI team and will be taking part in the European Championships in Budapest next week.

Oldbury Wells student Olivia, who started cheering with Bridgnorth group Cheerforce 10 three years ago, is now in a team with cheerleaders up to 24-years-old.

Her mother, Tracy Philips, said: "She's not even 13 yet but she has been working really hard, she's one of the youngest in the team.

"They are selected from all over the country so there are people from the north of England, the south, all over in the team.

"At the moment she trains with them once a month but as it gets closer that will increase. We're doing a lot of fundraising for the trips."

Meanwhile, Luke, who has just a few days until he takes part in his competition, has already won a number of competitions and trophies locally.

Mrs Philips said: "He has been doing it for quite a while but in the past few years he's worked really hard and got his black belt, second degree.

"They are two sports that aren't very usual."
