Mr Pritchard has vowed to fight plans to close the Donnington Wood Lifelong Learning Centre. The centre provides 500 meals per week to groups as well as helping the unemployed and providing computer skills to people of all ages.

It was recently highlighted on Telford & Wrekin council's list of centres to close. Mr Pritchard said: "The centre does a huge amount for the local community. From providing low cost meals to low income families and helping upskill hard to reach people with new life skills and training.

"The centre is a hub of much needed activity, which would only cost the borough council more in the long run if it shut. I hope the council will think again or lease the centre for a peppercorn rent to local people."

As part of plans to cut a further £30 million from its budget, Telford & Wrekin Council is carrying out an urgent review of the management of five community centres it runs in the borough. They are Brookside Community Centre, Leegomery Community Centre, Donnington Wood Lifelong Learning Centre, Sutton Hill Community Centre and Watling Street Community Centre in Arleston.
