Shropshire Star

Drone's eye-view of The Wrekin

It's Shropshire's most recognisable landmark – but it's never been seen from this viewpoint before.

With its deep purples, vibrant greens and blues, this photo of The Wrekin was captured by a drone.

It was taken by Wayne Gaskell, of Newport, who got his drone for Christmas and has taken stunning images of the local area ever since.

These shots were taken in the early afternoon on Valentine's Day, by the 37-year-old IT engineer.

He said: "I'm a keen trail runner and hiker and The Wrekin is regular spot for me so I took advantage of the sunny day to take these pictures.

"This summer I intend to incorporate a lot of aerial photography with my hiking as there are quite a few destinations I'd like to take aerial snaps of.

"Overall I'm pleased with the pictures but they do require a little post-production tweaking to sharpen them up a bit.

"Unless the light is excellent the pictures can come out a little soft."

Mr Gaskell has been into photography for about five years but says he does like gadgets – which is what drew him to using a drone.

He said: " A drone gives a different perspective than standard photography and brings great flexibility, it really is a joy to use."
