Inquiry starts on bid to build 68 homes in Ellesmere
A public inquiry to determine plans for nearly 70 homes in a Shropshire market town was starting today.
A Government planning inspector was hearing about plans to build 68 homes off Teal Drive in Ellesmere.
The inquiry, which is expected to last three days, was being held in the council chamber in Oswestry.
Residents are concerned that the extra housing would put a strain on local facilities and services and there is also concern that part of the site has a history of flooding. The council turned down the application last year after ruling that the plans would not enhance the countryside and would have too great a "cumulative impact" when considered alongside other proposed developments.
But Les Stephan Planning Ltd appealed against the council's decision on behalf of David Wilson Homes.
