Man, 39, charged over Oswestry skatepark tragedy

An Oswestry man will appear in court charged with perverting the course of justice following the death of another man after his 20th birthday party in Oswestry.

Matthew Jones, of Johnstown, died on November 1, 2014, after attending a party at the Academy Skatepark on Rednal Industrial Estate.

Mr Jones, known as Matty, had been celebrating his birthday with friends at the party.

He was taken ill at the party and taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Shortly after Mr Jones's death, a man from Oswestry was arrested by West Mercia Police on suspicion of manslaughter and supplying class A drugs.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Connie Osborne said: "No further action will be taken in relation to a man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and supply of controlled class A drugs.

"However, Crispin James Wrigley, aged 39, of Cabin Lane, Oswestry, has been charged with committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice.

"He has been bailed to appear at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 25. This relates to the investigation into the death of Matthew Jones on November 1, 2014."
