Lee Johnson, 45, a sergeant with West Mercia Police, was found dead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on February 13.
At a brief hearing in Ruthin yesterday coroner John Gittins, the coroner for North Wales East and Central, said the cause of death was given as hanging.
Sergeant Johnson, who lived in Pantymwyn, near Mold, leaves a wife Barbara, daughter Elle and son Kane.
The coroner adjourned the case to a provisional date in Mold in July but said enquiries may mean it having to be postponed.
