New Shropshire flood alerts as rain returns

Flood alerts were today in place for areas of Shropshire, with persistent rain was expected to hit the region overnight.

The Environment Agency has issued an orange alert out for the Upper Teme, Rea Brook, Cound Brook and Tern and Perry catchments.

The Upper Teme is expected to peak between 3.8 and 4.1 metres on Wednesday, while the Rea Brook is expected to peak at between 1.4 and 1.6 metres .

Today, forecasters warned of persistent rain, heavy at times, which was expected from the early hours of Wednesday. It is set to continue during the morning before slowly easing in the afternoon.

Accompanied by windy conditions, forecasters warned the rain was likely to produce some flooding and difficult driving conditions.
