St Mary's Street is closed after one of the walls of the former Citizens Advice Bureau building was found to be leaning.

Town mayor Councillor Roy Aldcroft said the road had been shut since Thursday following the discovery.

He said: "All I know is it was closed because one of the walls of the building was leaning. I'm not quite sure what will be happening next though.

"I suppose it all depends on the people who own the building."

Road and footpath closure signs are currently in place to prevent anyone from using the street.

Local businesses said the building was cordoned off on Thursday and they have not been made aware of how long the road will be closed for.

Staff at the town's St Mary's Dental Surgery said they haven't seen any repair work be done on the building, which is believed to be for sale.

Road and footpath closure signs are currently in place to prevent anyone from using the street.

Gareth Proffitt, a spokesman for Shropshire Council, said: "St Mary's Street was closed as a precaution after the council's building control officers inspected a building and deemed it to be unsafe."

The council is expected to make a further announcement about the building and road closure in the next couple of days.
