Telford baby kidnap: Kelly Mahon had nappies, steriliser and to-do-list for abduction
Baby-snatcher Kelly Mahon had nappies, a steriliser and a to-do-list at her house after kidnapping a nine-week-old baby boy from his Telford home.
When Mahon, 41, of John Broad Avenue, Arleston, appeared before Telford magistrates last month Kelly Crowe, prosecuting, told the court Mahon had knocked on the mother's door, also in Arleston, and told her that her husband had been involved in a road traffic collision and was injured.
"There was no road traffic collision," Mrs Crowe told the court.
"This defendant said 'I will watch your child while you attend to your husband'.
"By the time she realised there was no accident and got back home, the nine-week-old child was missing."
The prosecutor said it was a "pre-planned kidnap" and that Mahon had spoken to the baby's grandmother at a bus stop some weeks before the snatch.
"She found out from this conversation the sex of the baby, that it was a boy," the prosecutor said.
"She sought out the victim.
"When officers got round to her (Mahon's) property they found a number of baby items including a steriliser and nappies.
"There was also a to-do list."
Mahon's defence today accepted there was prior planning of kidnap by Mahon "at least to a degree", but denied she had visited the street of the baby's home the day before.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court today Mahon was told to expect prison when she is sentenced in May.
