The lights are in place at the junction of the B4387 and Leigh Road while building work is being carried out. A three-way traffic light system is in force, along with cones signage.

But police have been told that the traffic equipment is being tampered with, mainly at weekends.

A spokesman for the Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Signs are being removed, cones are being thrown into gardens and the traffic lights are being tampered with, so that they go out of rotation.

"All of these actions will cause annoyance and frustration to drivers and pedestrians. It will also endanger drivers and pedestrians.

"It may seem to persons who interfere with the equipment as a bit of a joke. However we would like to remind those persons that it is an offence to interfere with directly or indirectly traffic equipment.

"The reality is that by interfering with that equipment you may well be putting drivers and pedestrians in danger.

"Road safety in our rural villages is always on the top of our list. Traffic equipment is there to keep everyone safe from harm. Help us keep our roads safe. If you see any one moving or tampering with traffic equipment please call us on 101."
