Pictures and video: Traffic chaos as busy A5 at Shrewsbury closed after cattle trailer overturns
The busy A5 in Shrewsbury was closed today after a cattle trailer overturned - causing long delays for motorists.
The A5 between Bayston Hill and Emstrey Island was closed while five fire crews and a vet dealt with the incident, which happened just after 9.20am this morning.
A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: "We received a call at 9.27am reporting a road traffic accident in Shrewsbury.
"Five fire appliances including the aerial ladder platform were mobilised from Shrewsbury and Wellington.
"Also at the scene of the incident were the police and a vet.
"It was a road traffic accident involving a Land Rover vehicle and livestock trailer with cattle inside which had overturned on roadway."
A West Mercia Police spokesman said there were no people injured in the crash and that the road was closed to prevent the animals getting into the carriageway.
The cattle were all rescued safely from the crash and the road was re-opened at 11.40am.
