Former royal chef from Telford dies in rooftop garden fall
A former chef to the Royal Family who hailed from Shropshire has died after falling from a luxury rooftop garden in London.
Davan Holt, aged 43, from Telford, was seen by office workers falling from a four-storey block of converted apartments at dawn on Monday in Hoxton.
Mr Holt, who grew up in Telford before moving to London to work as a chef, was taken to hospital and died the next day in the arms of his mother Jannette Holt-Hylton.
Witnesses reportedly claimed he was wearing 'fairy wings' when he fell.
Mother-of-five Ms Holt-Hylton, 67, travelled from her home in Telford to London to be with him after it happened.
She said her son had worked as a chef at Windsor Castle in the 1980s, before taking up a position as a paralegal with London-based law firm Magrath.
She added: "I lost my baby and he took his last breath in my arms, it was horrible to see my son like that. My lips touched his lips.
"I kissed him like when he was first born. I loved my son. He was a good, kind young man and he liked to help anybody and did charity work in Africa.
"He cooked for the Queen Mum at Windsor Castle as a sous chef, but he wanted to help people so he turned to immigration law.
"He was the best immigration lawyer and followed in family footsteps as my grandfather was a lawyer. He came from a good stable family."
Ms Holt-Hylton said she had last spoken to him on Friday when they shared a laugh after he had called her asking for advice. She said he had been "happy".
Mr Holt fell from a block opposite the offices of television chef Jamie Oliver and near his restaurant Fifteen.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
He was found lying on the ground outside The Factory apartment block.
A resident had to call police after discovering him.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 7.15am on Monday to Underwood Road to reports of a man injured in the street.
"The man is believed to have been injured as a result of a fall from a building.
"Police, paramedics and an air ambulance attended.
"He was taken to hospital, but died the following day. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and the matter is now with Poplar Coroner's Court."
London Ambulance Service said paramedics treated a patient for head and chest injuries and took them to a major trauma centre.
