Multi-million revamp of Telford bus station given green light
A multi-million pound redevelopment of Telford's bus station has been given the green light.
New shops will be built next to the bus station and a new entrance to Telford Shopping Centre will also be created from Northfield Street. There would also be a weather-protected route to the buses.
Telford & Wrekin Council has given its blessing to the project, which was put forward by bosses at Telford Shopping Centre in partnership with Arriva and the local authority.
It is hoped the work, which will be partly funded by a £1.3 million grant from Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, will be finished by autumn next year.
The new entrance would face on to a new plaza, possibly with its own cafe, as part of a plan to create better pedestrian access around the shopping centre, linking to the new Southern Quarter and Southwater.
Inside the shopping centre, there will also be major work to renovate Wrekin Square, New Row and New Street.
A new mall will be created connecting Sherwood Street, the row of shops which houses New Look, Clarks, H&M and Costa Coffee, among others, and New Street, home to Boots Opticians and CeX.
