Telford council calls it a night on noisy works
Measures are being put in place to reduce disruption for people during roadworks in Telford.
Residents living near the Clock Tower roundabout in Donnington have raised issues about the noise created by the night work.
Work is being completed at the roundabout to try to reduce the disruption on surrounding roads during the day.
Russell Griffin, of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "Unfortunately this has resulted in a negative impact for local residents due to the noise the work creates.
"This has understandably been a difficult time for them especially those with young children.
"We have therefore put in place several measures to help mitigate the noise."
In a bid to cut down noise there will be no saw cutting or breaking equipment to be used after 11pm, surfacing operations and materials will be delivered as early in the evening as possible, reversing beacons are to be muffled or disconnected where possible, there will be no vibration rolling with only dead-weight rollers used and no unnecessary shouting or raised voices.
Mr Griffin added: "In addition we have decided to cancel the work on Saturday night. Even with the above measures in place it is unavoidable that noise is and will continue to be problem for local residents.
"Cancelling Saturday's work will prolong the overall programme but more importantly it will give local residents some much-needed respite over the weekend from the disruption they are currently exposed to."
There will now be overnight closure to School Road each night between 8pm and 6am, excluding Saturday and Sunday from tomorrow until March 28.
The roundabout is being improved as part of the Telford growth point programme, which will see £12 million spent to improve roundabouts at Trench Lock, Clock Tower, Shawbirch, Ketley Brook, Limekiln, Randlay and M54 junction four, with work already underway on many of the roundabouts.
Two other Telford roads will be closed in the coming weeks to make way for resurfacing weeks.
There will be nighttime closures of Castle Farm Way and the A464 northbound to make way for further improvements to take place at Junction 4 of the M54, including loop cutting for traffic signals, surfacing and white lining
Advance notice signs have been put out on the network. Castle Farm Way and the A464 Northbound will be closed from Monday until March 24 between 8pm and 5am and from March 27 to March 31 between 8pn and 5am. The council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the works.
