Cash stolen in burglary at Ironbridge post office
A post office was closed today after burglars broke in overnight and stole cash from the business.
Forensics officers from?West Mercia Police were at Ironbridge post office today after the burglary in the early hours.
The burglars are understood to have stolen money from the post office, but police spokeswoman Rachel Anstee said the owners had not yet established exactly how much was taken.
She said: "Police were called at about 1.40am. Scenes of crime officers have been at the scene and are currently investigating.
"The property was empty at the time so there was no confrontation with the burglars."
A worker at Ironbridge pharmacy, next to the post office in The Square, Ironbridge, said: "The forensics van was here about 10am and the police were in and out. Everything seemed to be finished by late lunchtime.
"The post office has been closed all day. We don't really know much about what's been happening, although some people coming in have been talking about it."
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact Telford police on 101 quoting reference number 26S280513.
Information can also be passed on anonymously via the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111
The post office will only be in its current location in The Square, Ironbridge, for another week.
It is then due to relocate to the neighbouring pharmacy shop.
