A court heard that both Jamie Turner, 20, and Andrew Turner, 24, threw punches during the disturbance in Wellington in October last year.

As a result of the fight Michael Everitt suffered cuts and bruising to his face and had damaged teeth and an injury to his jaw.

His partner Sarah Everitt had a grazed cheek and another victim, Lee Drummond, suffered a swollen right eye.

The defendants appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court for sentencing, having admitted a charge of affray at an earlier hearing.

Jamie Turner, of Newdale Halt in Lawley Village, Telford, was given four months' custody at a young offenders' institution which was suspended for a year.

He must also complete 80 hours' unpaid work, pay £500 compensation to Mr Everitt and £250 court costs

Andrew Turner, a serving soldier with the Household Cavalry, was fined £500 and ordered to pay £250 compensation and £250 court costs.

The court heard the incident happened outside The Pheasant in Market Street on October 28. Mr Nicholas Tatlow, prosecuting, said the defendants had been out with family and friends. They had had a lot to drink and were looking for a taxi.

There was a verbal exchange between Jamie Turner and people in another group which led to the disturbance, some of which was recorded by a taxi driver on a dashboard camera.

Mr Tatlow said the defendants had each offered a basis of plea which had been accepted by the prosecution.

The court was told that both had shown remorse for their actions.
