The man claims that his car has broken down and that he desperately needs petrol to get his diabetic son back home.

But police have warned that the story is part of a hoax, and ask that anybody who sees this man calls 101 straight away.

The warning was posted on the Telford & Wrekin Cops Facebook page.

They wrote: "Beware of a male knocking on doors in Brookside asking for money.

"He claims his car has broken down on EP and had a diabetic son inside.

"He is asking for money for petrol but this is a hoax please phone 101 immediately if anyone is asking for money on your doorstep."
