The two men were walking home in the Madeley area of Telford in August when they were assaulted by 22-year-old Kyle Davies.

The injury to Courtney Wall was from a single punch and his friend Jonathan Rhodes was struck a glancing blow to the head in the incident.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court, Davies, of The Saplings, Woodside, was given a 12-month community order and told to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also made subject to a three-month monitored curfew and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to Mr Wall for his pain and suffering.

At an earlier hearing Davies had admitted a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm and an offence of common assault.

The court heard the incident happened in Park Lane, Madeley, on August 30 when Davies was arguing with two girls as the victims were passing.

Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said that when one of the girls spoke to the victims and asked for a light Davies had attacked both men.

He said Mr Wall was struck on the left side of the face and his friend was hit with a glancing blow to the head.

Mr Jones said Mr Wall was in pain and his face was swollen and he had difficulty speaking.

An X-ray showed his jaw was fractured and a plate was inserted by doctors to repair the damage. Following the attack Davies had expressed his remorse in Facebook conversations and was later picked out in an identification parade.

The court was told he was arguing with his girlfriend and had taken it out on the victims and he was sorry for what happened.

Miss Sarah Cooper, for Davies, said that her client had been drunk and the incident was 'out of character' and he had little recollection of the incident.
