Shop workers threatened at knifepoint in Oswestry robbery
Armed robbers threatened two shop assistants with knives at a Co-op store in Oswestry.
The robbery took place at the store in Castle Street, Oswestry, last night.
A customer walking into the shop disturbed the hooded men, who fled with cash.
Two two male cashiers were shaken but unhurt in the robbery.
West Mercia Police has appealed for help in tracking down the robbers and officers are studying CCTV images as part of the investigation.
Spokeswoman, Anne Tugwell said that two men entered the shop at about 7.20pm.
"They threatened two cashiers with knives as they demanded money from the tills," she said.
"The cashiers handed over some cash but a customer entered the store, disturbing the offenders and they made their escape."
"One of the offenders is described as being about six foot tall, and the other slightly shorter.
"Both were wearing black or dark blue hoodies, black tracksuit bottoms, balaclavas and gloves.
"No-one was injured in the incident. Police officers have conducted house to house enquiries and are studying CCTV for information.
"They would like to hear from the customer who was in the store at the same time as the offenders, or anyone else who has information which would help them with their enquiries."
In a message on social media the two young cashiers said: "Thanks everyone we are both shook up but we're okay thanks for all the support."
The shop which closed following the robbery, reopened this morning.
A spokesperson for the Co-op said: "Armed intruders entered our Castle Street, Oswestry, store at approximately 7.20pm on Sunday, 16 October.
"CCTV coverage has been shared with police, who are investigating, and we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
"The store reopened this morning and we apologise to the community for any inconvenience caused during its temporary closure."
