The 35-year-old, of Garth Owen, is charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.

It comes after a man wearing a hood walked into Boozed Up in Salop Road, Oswestry, on Monday night and threatened the cashier with a knife before escaping with nearly £500 in cash and cigarettes.

Cowans was remanded in custody by magistrates to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court via video link on January 3 next year, where it is expected he will answer a plea to the charges.
