Caroline Butters, 66, of Myddle, scooped the prize after just two weeks of playing the People's Postcode Lottery.

She said: "I can't believe I've won when I only signed up to play a couple of weeks ago.

"I had seen People's Postcode Lottery advertised and thought I'd give it a go."

Caroline and her husband, Peter, wasted no time celebrating and headed out for a champagne lunch after being presented with the cheque by Scott Quinnell, former Wales rugby union captain.

Caroline said: "So far I have ordered a new hedge cutter, a kettle and a Henry Hoover."

Along with the household items and some bills to pay, Caroline will also use the winnings on a trip with her family as well as donating some to good causes.

"My husband Peter and his twin brother Michael turn 70 on Christmas Eve so both families are travelling to Center Parcs to celebrate," said Caroline.

Street Prize presenter Mr Quinnell said: "Caroline burst into tears when she saw amount she won, bless her."

To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised £45.3 million for good causes, including the Shropshire Sailing Club which was awarded £2,000 for their Sailing for Youngsters programme.

The programme's aim is to equip the club with two sailing dinghies suitable for use by children.
