Man dies after gas hob left on in Telford home
A man was found dead after the gas hob was left on in his kitchen.
Firefighters who were called to the property in Queen Elizabeth Way, Malinslee, Telford, said they could smell gas when they arrived.
During their search of the property they discovered that the gas hob had been left on in the kitchen.
It is understood that the hob had been turned on without being lit at the house this morning.
Emergency services, including West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, and West Midlands Ambulance Service, received the initial call to attend the scene at about 9.15am following reports from members of the public about the smell of gas.
Despite the efforts of ambulance workers to revive him the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
John Hawker, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, confirmed that paramedics had found a man dead in the house.
He said: "We were called at 9am yesterday morning to a property in Malinslee.
"One ambulance crew attended and one man was confirmed to be deceased."
Utility company Transco was also called to attend the scene in an effort to make sure there was no further risk as a result of the gas which had been released into the home.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they had found the hob left on in the kitchen, without it being lit.
He said: "One fire appliance was sent to the scene from Telford Central.
"Also at the scene of the incident were West Midlands Ambulance Service, the police and a utility company."
The spokeswoman added: "A smell of gas came from within the property and was found to be the result of a gas hob being turned on without being ignited."
The emergency services left the house at about 9.40am.
