Shotgun shock for girls playing in Telford woods

Three young girls discovered a shotgun in a bag while playing in woods in Telford.

The bag with the firearm in it was found on Saturday in woodland near Holmer Lake in Brookside.

Police were called and the weapon was made safe. It was sent away for forensic testing and investigations will now begin into who the owner is and how it came to be left in the woods. Anybody with information is being asked to come forward to help in the hunt.

Inspector Jerry Coyd of West Mercia Police said: "We received a call after three girls discovered a firearm in a bag in a wooded area of Brookside in Telford.

"Police attended and the firearm was made safe.

"The weapon has been sent away for forensic testing and inquiries are ongoing to locate the owner of the firearm.

"If anyone has any information to help locate the owner, please call 101 and quote incident number 358s of July 16."
