Police seek witnesses to A49 head-on collision near Shrewsbury where two suffered multiple injuries

Police are looking for witnesses to a head-on-collision on the A49 south of Shrewsbury which saw two taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

Officers from West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses or information following the crash near Dorrington on Sunday night.

The crash happened shortly before 6.30pm when a grey Land Rover Freelander travelling northbound on the road and a red Leyland DAF box van travelling in the opposite direction were involved in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Freelander, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries to his back and abdomen. The passenger in the Freelander was also taken to hospital after sustaining injuries to her legs and abdomen.

As well as two casualties requiring emergency care, specialist fire crews from Wellington fire station were called to the scene to help move the horse that was being transported from its damaged horse box into a new one.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information they feel may be relevant. Please call 101 quoting incident number 620s of August 7.
