Police appeal after one airlifted from M54 crash near Telford

Police are looking for witnesses to a crash on the M54 which saw one man airlifted to hospital.

The crash happened on August 17 at about 10am on the westbound carriageway between Junction 5 and Junction 6 and involved a silver Mercedes Benz, a black Renault Twingo and a blue Mercedes Benz Coupé.

Traffic tailed back after leaving the closed M54 at Junction 7

The driver of the blue Mercedes, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance after sustaining a head injury.

The passenger in the same vehicle, a woman also in her 70s, was taken to hospital by land ambulance after sustaining injuries to her arm and abdomen.

Five people in a second car, two adults and three children, were treated at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

The driver of the third vehicle did not require medical attention.

The carriageway remained closed for approximately two hours during the incident and while enquiries were conducted at the scene.

The circumstances of the collision are being investigated by officers from CMPG and officers from the West Mercia Collision Investigation Unit who are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
