Firefighters from as far afield as Shrewsbury, Prees and Much Wenlock were needed to tackle the flames at the factory in Hadley at about 1.20am this morning.

Local residents were told to keep their windows closed at the height of the first due to the volume of smoke in the area.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and a covering jet to put out the fire.

Fire appliances, including the aerial ladder platform, the foam pod, the incident command unit, the light pumping unit, the prime mover and the welfare unit were sent from Baschurch, Much Wenlock, Newport, Prees, Shrewsbury, Telford Central, Tweedale and Wellington. Operations, hazmat and safety officers were also in attendance.

A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: "When firefighters turned up the fire was big, but it was very quickly dealt with."

Flames were put out by just before 3am.

The fire service returned to the factory this morning to reinspect the damage.
