Fire crews were called to the Kings Arms in Shropshire Street shortly after 1pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The crew have carried out an initial survey of slight damage to a building following a collision by a van."

Crews inspected the building and police closed the nearby footpath while the Highways Agency were sent to inspect the scene. There were no injuries in the crash.

A staff member from the Kings Arms said: "We have been deemed safe for opening, "The footpath has been closed for now and the front entrance has been closed but we are open for business."

Victoria Doran, Shropshire Council's highways manager – north, said: "A van has backed into the Kings Arms pub and damaged the building. It has been temporarily made safe/propped up, but needs to be surveyed by an inspector or surveyor.

"Shropshire Council has had to close the pavement. We have arranged for two-way temporary traffic lights to be set up and the provision of a temporary pedestrian walkway."
