Shrewsbury knife robber threatens workers in Post Office raid
A balaclava-clad man burst into a post office and threatened the terrified workers with a knife during a robbery in Sutton Farm, Shrewsbury.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, targeted the post office in Tilstock Crescent, just after 9.40am yesterday and demanded staff hand over money.
Staff activated a security alarm and the offender fled empty-handed into Sutton Road and then back into the Sutton Farm estate.
Officers from West Mercia Police arrived within minutes and carried out an extensive search of the area but the man was not found.
CCTV footage from the store and the surrounding shopping parade is being examined.
Officers said that no staff or customers were injured but that employees had been left shaken by the incident.
Detective Sergeant Mark Hill said the offender had approached the post office from the direction of nearby Rowley Court.
"The man entered the shop and pointed a knife at staff behind the counter before demanding money," he said. "However, he fled empty-handed when the security alarm was activated and made off into the housing estate.
"He is white, about 5ft 10in in height, of large build and possibly in his 20s.
"He was wearing a bulky black or dark jacket, jeans and had a grey balaclava covering his face."
