One hurt in gable end building collapse in Telford
Two men were treated by paramedics after the partial collapse of part of a building in Telford.
Police say they have handed the scene at the Mercian Works, in Holyhead Road, over to the Health and Safety Executive following the partial collapse of a gable end of a building.
A spokesperson for the West Mercia Police said: “Officers were called to Mercian Works on Holyhead Road in Ketley, Telford at around 7.20pm yesterday (Monday 13 June) following reports that a wall had partially collapsed.
“We attended the scene, where a man in his 30s had suffered serious head injuries and was treated by the ambulance service. The scene was assessed by officers and has now been handed over to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to investigate.”
A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a wall that had collapsed at an industrial premises on Holyhead Road at 7.08pm last night. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered two male patients who were treated for injuries not believed to be serious. One was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital and the second to Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, for further treatment.
Firefighters from Wellington station were scrambled at 7.21pm on Monday to the Mercian Works, in Holyhead Road, following reports of a collapse of structures.
A spokesman for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "This incident involved the partial collapse of the gable end of a building.
"Fire service personnel used to 9m ladder in order to make the area safe.
"One casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service."
The fire service control received its incident stop message 35 minutes later, at 7.56pm.
