MP 'confident' over funding for Shrewsbury North West Relief Road
There are "positive indications" from the Government over the long-awaited Shrewsbury North West Relief Road, according to the town's MP.
Daniel Kawczynski said he has also been assured that Shropshire Council has a team in place to develop the business case required to gain approval for the road.
It comes after nearly £1 million of funding was announced for the development of an up-to-date business case for the project.
The announcement came from Chancellor Philip Hammond in his Autumn Statement, with a commitment to provide up to £942,000 to the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership for the scheme.
Mr Kawczynski said: "I am getting very positive indications that if the business case is watertight that we might finally be able to get this funding for what is an incredibly important project.
"If we are able to put together a robust business case we will be able to access that in early 2018.
"They have now got the whole of 2017 to complete the business case because things will have changed since the last time this was funded in 2008."
Mr Kawczynski said he had received personal assurances from Shropshire Council leader Malcolm Pate that it is ready to begin work on the business case.
He said: "I was given assurances that the team is in place at Shirehall working on it and they are on course for next year to have the business case ready."
