Albrighton station to close over Easter weekend

Major works will force the closure of a train station for two weeks.

Albrighton station, on the line from Wolverhampton to Telford, will close over the Easter weekend.

The works are needed to replace the bridge on which Albrighton station is located. Both the listed footbridge and cast iron railing also need to be preserved.

To complete the work, the station will be closed for two weeks from April 8 to 23.

The line will also be closed over the Easter weekend to remove the old bridge and replace it with a new one.

Station Road underneath the bridge will shut so a large crane can put the new bridge into place.

The equipment will extend out onto the A41 Albrighton Bypass, where delays to and from the station should be expected while temporary traffic lights are in place.

Replacements buses will run to connect with train services between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury on all days, except over the Easter weekend and on Sundays.

Buses take 10 minutes in each direction and run to an amended timetable, so passengers are warned to allow extra time for journeys.

Car parking will be available for free at Cosford for passengers who want to drive there instead.

On April 15 and 17, the line through Albrighton will be closed with buses to replace trains between Telford and Wolverhampton.

Trains will run between Shrewsbury and Telford only. A full timetable will be available at local stations.

Visit www.nationalrail.co.uk to check journey announcements and passengers should allow extra time for journeys throughout the works.
