Demand for action to save lives after two killed in motorbike crash on A525 near Whitchurch
Calls were today made for measures to improve the safety of a busy road near Whitchurch where two men died.
Karl Humphries, of charity Get Hooked on Fishing, said new road markings and signage are needed on the A525.
Motorcyclist Walter Dobrowolska, 67, of Ellerdine, Telford, crashed into pedestrian Roy Bundy, 79, a fisherman from Chester. Both died in the accident near Villa Farm Fishing on March 21.
Mr Humphries said: "The Cheshire side has about 11 safety signs pointing out the road has had a lot of casualties and accidents. Cheshire has recognised it is an accident blackspot but Shropshire has not.
"I bring a lot of kids to this fishing farm as part of Get Hooked and they have to cross the busy road. It needs double lines to stop vehicles overtaking and signs to make drivers aware."
Dave Gradwell, Shropshire Council's traffic engineer, said the section of road where the accident happened has "good visibility" in both directions, and is not an "accident cluster" site.
The council has previously carried out signing and lining improvements along this section of the A525, particularly for the approach to Broughall Crossroads, he added.
