Stadco's £15m Telford investment will create 30 jobs
Manufacturing firm Stadco will create 30 new jobs at its Telford plant after investing £15 million in a new production line.
The car parts maker is to bring in the 4,000-ton press – one of the largest in Europe – next year after it won a major new contract to make aluminium and steel parts for a leading automotive firm.
It will allow the Telford plant to make up to four parts at a time, at a rate of up to 3,200 parts per hour to suit high-volume vehicle production, the company said.
Sales and marketing director Dinos Andreou said: "This is a really exciting addition to our facilities.
"This new line places the company in an excellent position to take advantage of the future requirements of our customers." At present, Stadco employs 995 people across the UK, including 338 in Shrewsbury and 223 in Telford, but the new production created by the added facility is expected to bring a further 30 jobs to Telford, including a number of trained technical specialist roles.
Ray Macera, Stadco's facility director for Telford, added: "This investment will ensure Telford remains one of the UK's leading manufacturing facilities, with leading edge equipment and capabilities.
"The additional work this new line will generate is a positive step to ensuring secure jobs for local people and will help us to provide the best service to our automotive customers."
The new press is on schedule to be installed and commissioned early next year, with full production starting next December. Stadco acquired the Telford site in Hortonwood in 2011, a move which created 50 new jobs.
The 18-acre site has two large mechanical stamping lines, a fully-equipped toolroom and extensive assembly capability, which support Stadco in its position as the largest independent UK-based international supplier of automotive body products and services.
