Shrewsbury Town Football Club is to change the name of its stadium, it was announced today. And club bosses revealed supporters will get the chance to pick the name by voting in an online poll.

It came as Greenhous, Shropshire's largest new car and commercial dealer, announced it has extended its sponsorship of the club.

As a result, supporters will be able to participate in an online vote which will decide whether the football ground, currently called the Prostar Stadium, should be renamed as the Greenhous Stadium, Park, Coliseum or Arena.

It is part of a new three-year deal which will see the county company continue to sponsor the club's shirts.

One voter will be picked at random to conduct the official naming ceremony at the first home game of the season in August and will win VIP match tickets for the game.

Dave Sullivan, director general manager of Greenhous, said: "The Shrews attract the biggest regular crowd to home games of any club or event in the county, and many of our customers and staff are season ticket holders.

"We are passionate about the future of professional football in Shropshire, we really want to get as many fans and customers involved with our sponsorship as possible, so at the start of next season we'll be announcing a series of new initiatives to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate," Mr Sullivan added.
