Playing in the final last-eight match, 29-year-old Castlefields star Wraight was edged out by Glynn Cookson.

It was a closely-fought battle with neither player getting a run, but 2001 Waterloo champion Cookson prevailed 21-20.

Wraight had already seen off defending champion Greg Smith and crown green's No.1 Gary Ellis to reach the quarter-finals.

Tim Houghton won the competition, holding his nerve to beat John Bailey 21-19.

Bailey had held off a fightback from Wraight's conqueror Cookson to claim a 21-19 success in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Hanwood's Smith recovered from his two defeats in two days against arch-rival Wraight to win the Marton Institute Open in Blackpool.

Smith enjoyed a 21-14 victory over Andy Cairns on finals night on Tuesday.
