AFC Telford midfielder Phil Trainer is targeting a return of 10 goals for the forthcoming season.

The Wolverhampton-based player, who has developed a reputation for scoring both spectacular and important goals during his time at the New Bucks Head, always sets the same goal-scoring target each year of double figures.

He will always be remembered in Shopshire for two particular strikes – the promotion-winning goal against Guiseley in the Blue Square Bet North play-off final two seasons ago and the goal that kept them in the Blue Square Bet Premier league at home against Tamworth the following year.

But he has notched 34 strikes for the club in 151 competitive appearances and, with his team preparing to start a second straight campaign in the top flight of non-league football at Barrow today, he is hoping to add to that tally again soon.

He said: "I always have a set figure of double figures. It's always 10. Anything after that is a bonus."

But he added his main aim will be to help the Bucks achieve three points as regularly as possible.

"The goals are a bonus but it is more about the team playing well and getting points," he said. "My aim for the season is to play as many games as I can and try to help the lads."
